DIFF 2021 to review Iranian director's films

The 2021 Dhaka Int’l Film Festival is to review works of Iranian director Pouran Derakhshandeh.

The 19th edition of the Dhaka International Film Festival in Bangladesh (DIFF) has selected four films by Iranian director Pouran Derakhshandeh for review.

Derakhshandeh’s films ‘Under the Smokey Roof’, ‘Hush! Girls Don’t Scream’, ‘Eternal Kids’, and ‘Tempestuous Youth’ will go on screen at the 2021 DIFF.

After screening the films, the DIFF will hold Q&A sessions in presence of the director.

Moreover, Derakhshandeh will hold masterclasses and workshops during the festival.

Derakhshandeh, Iranian scriptwriter, producer, and director, began working for her country’s national broadcaster as a documentarian, producing more than 30 short films and documentaries about subjects such as the plague, recession, drug addiction, smuggling, traditional ceremonies, and music from different parts of Iran.

She is a member of the International Center of Films for Children and Young People, American Association of Women in Film, American Association of Independent Feature Project, and the deputy head of the Iranian Cinema Directors Association.

She has also served on the jury panel for various domestic and international film festivals.

Some 200 films from 60 countries will compete at the DIFF in the following categories: Asian Competition Section, Retrospective, Bangladesh Panorama, Cinema of the World, Children’s Film, Short and Independent Film, Women Filmmakers Section, and Spiritual Films Section.

The 2021 DIFF will be held on January 16-24 in Bangladesh.
